June 2009

I started my first blog in April 2006. We were living in Teramo, Italy and I was about to give birth to Elijah in a few weeks. Up until that time I had kept most of our family and friends up-to-date back at home through mass e-mailings. Since I wasn’t sure if everyone really wanted to be reading these updates I decided to start a blog. That way whoever wanted to read could, and whoever didn’t wouldn’t have to bother. This was when blogging was first becoming big, so most people had no clue what I was doing. I started out our family blog on Blogger and by the next year, I had to make it private because too many basketball fans had found it. Somehow the whole world being able to see pictures of our kids in the bathtub didn’t seem like a good idea.

When I got pregnant with Naomi I started a pregnancy blog and was starting to catch hold of the whole blogging thing. Occasionally I would use our family or my pregnancy blog for topics I wanted to talk about, but tried to keep it focused on family and pregnancy news. Joe had started to encourage me to start my own blog. I always pushed the idea away though because I felt like I needed a solid niche. One night a few weeks after Naomi was born it dawned on me: my niche was that I am a basket wife. People were always curious about my life. So in May of 2008, this site was born as a way to share my struggles and lessons that I learn as a basket wife.

As you read, you will quickly discover that the overarching philosophy and worldview of this blog is Christian. Living the life of a basket wife has been one of the main tools that God has used to mold and shape me into the image of His Son. It has been challenging to find my satisfaction in Him while moving, loving Joe and caring for our kids. The different stresses of this life have forced me to think through issues I may not have otherwise thought through.

This blog serves as a way for me to work through what I live every day. As I write, I am able to learn and hopefully stir others to think about their own lives. I don’t think that I have everything figured out, but I am working to bring all of my life under the Lordship of Jesus. Thanks for joining me on my journey.
