Spotlight Saturday: A Gospel Primer for Christians
Posted by: | CommentsA Gospel Primer for Christians: Learning to see the Glories of God’s Love is a great tool for your quiet times with the Lord. As C.S. Lewis said, “We need to be reminded more than instructed” and this book is a great tool for reminding us about the greatness of the gospel. We can never hear the message enough that
“we are more wicked than we ever dared believe, but more loved and accepted in Christ than we ever dared hope — at the very same time”
- Tim Keller
This is the message of the gospel that in our sin, Jesus came and died for us to reconcile us to God for all eternity!

G.K. Chesterton Quote on Humility
Posted by: | CommentsJoe reminded me of this quote last night and I thought it too good not to quote for others:
“What we suffer from today is humility in the wrong place. Modesty has moved from the organ of ambition. Modesty has settled upon the organ of conviction; where it was never meant to be. A man was meant to be doubtful about himself, but undoubting about the truth; this has been exactly reversed. Nowadays the part of a man that a man does assert is exactly the part he ought not to assert–himself. The part he doubts is exactly the part he ought not to doubt - the Divine Reason. . . . The new skeptic is so humble that he doubts if he can even learn. . . . There is a real humility typical of our time; but it so happens that it’s practically a more poisonous humility than the wildest prostrations of the ascetic. . . . The old humility made a man doubtful about his efforts, which might make him work harder. But the new humility makes a man doubtful about his aims, which makes him stop working altogether. . . . We are on the road to producing a race of man too mentally modest to believe in the multiplication table.”
G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy [Garden City, NY: Doubleday and Co., 1957], pp. 31-32
I pray I would be a woman who is strong in her convictions, yet humble in my own abilities.
Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12b-13
Quote About a Godly Woman
Posted by: | CommentsThe false stereotype of a Christian woman being a helpless and frail mouse, who passively shades herself under the parasol of her soft femininity, and adoringly waits for her husband to do all the heavy lifting, is shattered by the Scriptures.
Yes, the godly Christian woman wears beautiful ornaments that are “precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:4). But her jewelry is not only the necklace of “a gentle and quiet spirit“, but also the bracelets of “strength and dignity.”
-Mark Chanski in “Womanly Dominion”
I know for me as a basket wife, this quote holds very true. In our lives of travel and isolation, strength is a requirement. We often must (just to name a few):
1. do things on our own and be strong while our husbands are away,
2. stay steady while our husbands receive public criticism from media, coaches, and teammates,
3. not fear for the future when our husbands are released in the middle of the season or have their play time significantly reduced,
4. be the sole provider for comfort, play and friendship for our children, and
5. navigate the waters of international living.
The above quote frees me to do this with strength and courage, while still remaining feminine and godly.
