Quote About a Godly Woman
Posted by: | CommentsThe false stereotype of a Christian woman being a helpless and frail mouse, who passively shades herself under the parasol of her soft femininity, and adoringly waits for her husband to do all the heavy lifting, is shattered by the Scriptures.
Yes, the godly Christian woman wears beautiful ornaments that are “precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:4). But her jewelry is not only the necklace of “a gentle and quiet spirit“, but also the bracelets of “strength and dignity.”
-Mark Chanski in “Womanly Dominion”
I know for me as a basket wife, this quote holds very true. In our lives of travel and isolation, strength is a requirement. We often must (just to name a few):
1. do things on our own and be strong while our husbands are away,
2. stay steady while our husbands receive public criticism from media, coaches, and teammates,
3. not fear for the future when our husbands are released in the middle of the season or have their play time significantly reduced,
4. be the sole provider for comfort, play and friendship for our children, and
5. navigate the waters of international living.
The above quote frees me to do this with strength and courage, while still remaining feminine and godly.
Dressing to the Glory of God
Posted by: | CommentsI just read one of the best quotes I have ever read on how to dress as a Christian:
“And for those who rebel in the other direction and make clothes themselves a means of power and prestige and attention-getting, God’s answer is not a return to nudity but a return to simplicity (1 Tim. 2:9-10; 1 Peter 3:4-5). Clothes are not meant to make people think about what is under the clothes. Clothes are meant to direct attention to what is not under them: merciful hands that serve others in the name of Christ, beautiful feet that carry the gospel where it is needed, and the brightness of a face that has beheld the glory of Jesus.”
- John Piper in “This Momentary Marriage” page 37
I might have to print this one out to post it by my closet!
Sanctity of Life Sunday
Posted by: | Comments
Today numerous churches are dedicating this Sunday to praying for and bringing to light the issue of abortion in the United States. Randy Alcorn shares 50 ways you can help unborn babies and their mothers. Your heart also may be stirred by listening to one of the many sermons John Piper has preached on the topic over the years. You can also visit ministries like Abort73 and Project Ultrasound to find more information and ways you can help the weakest of the weak (Psalm 82:3).
“To have a right to do a thing is not at all the same as to be right in doing it.”
~ G.K Chesterton ~“Abortion kills twice. It kills the body of the baby and it kills the conscience of the mother. Abortion is profoundly anti-women. Three quarters of its victims are women: Half the babies and all the mothers.”
~ Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta ~
