New Year, New Goals

By Erin

As I mentioned last year, I really enjoy the New Year holiday.  I love the fresh start it brings.  It is an opportunity to look back over the past year and praise God for His mercy and the grace He gave to grow.  It is an opportunity to look ahead to the coming year and focus on areas I would still like to improve on.

Last year was a focus on thankfulness, and by God’s grace I did see growth in that area.  I also set goals in the area of spiritual growth, reading, education, health/physical care, home care, relational growth and community/church involvement.  Overall, I met a good number of my goals.  I would like to do a better job reviewing my goals each month in the coming year, so I have added a re-occurring tasks to my organizational system to make sure I do so.  I think more goals would have been met had I kept my focus on them more throughout the year.

This year, after thinking and praying over it, my focus is going to be on steadiness.  The hymn I want to be my theme for the year is “How Firm a Foundation” with my Scripture being Psalm 1:2-3.  I would love to grow to be a woman who is unshakable in the midst of whatever circumstances come my way.  I know I have a lot of room to grow in not being easily shaken, so I will be praying and thinking about that in the year 2010.

Tomorrow I will share some of my favorite books from 2009.  Although I did not read nearly as many books as I would have liked this year, I read a much better variety and a lot of life-changing ones!  Happy New Year to all!
