Quote About a Godly Woman
ByThe false stereotype of a Christian woman being a helpless and frail mouse, who passively shades herself under the parasol of her soft femininity, and adoringly waits for her husband to do all the heavy lifting, is shattered by the Scriptures.
Yes, the godly Christian woman wears beautiful ornaments that are “precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:4). But her jewelry is not only the necklace of “a gentle and quiet spirit“, but also the bracelets of “strength and dignity.”
-Mark Chanski in “Womanly Dominion”
I know for me as a basket wife, this quote holds very true. In our lives of travel and isolation, strength is a requirement. We often must (just to name a few):
1. do things on our own and be strong while our husbands are away,
2. stay steady while our husbands receive public criticism from media, coaches, and teammates,
3. not fear for the future when our husbands are released in the middle of the season or have their play time significantly reduced,
4. be the sole provider for comfort, play and friendship for our children, and
5. navigate the waters of international living.
The above quote frees me to do this with strength and courage, while still remaining feminine and godly.

Erin,
I remember your husband when he played at Penn State. He terrorized us here in Michigan while I rooted for the Wolverines and Spartans — always a class act who made too many threes. I didn’t know he is a Christian. May the Lord mightily use him, and mightily bless you, the greater woman behind the great man.
Warmly,

Mark,
Thanks so much for your nice comments about Joe! It is easy to forget the important things at times in this professional sports arena. May he continue to show the work of God’s grace as he plays.
Thank you so much for your encouraging book as well. I have recommended it to many and will be re-visiting it consistently to encourage me to take dominion over the areas of my life that God calls me to do so faithfully.
