ByWith the addition of my “Current Recommendations” on the right hand side of the blog, I am going to try and change the books under that heading every 2 weeks. When I do change them, I am going to try and highlight the books I put up there in a post in the following days.
I just updated the books to include 2 that I have recently finished:
1. John Adams by David McCullough
It took me forever to finish this book! I had no idea how thick it was because we ordered the Kindle version of it. So at times I found myself thinking, “Is this ever going to end?” But I really did enjoy the book. I had been interested in watching the HBO miniseries based off of it, but I often make myself read the book before seeing a movie based upon it. I enjoy biographies as a way to keep my life in perspective and this was one that served that end. It also helped me to brush up on some of the history that I have forgotten over the years. And it has intrigued me to learn more about some of our past Presidents.
2. This Momentary Marriage by John Piper
I hadn’t read a marriage book in awhile, so at the beginning of the season when I asked our pastor Larry to help me choose between a couple we had on hand, he enthusiastically pointed me to this one. And I now agree with him that it is the best book on marriage I have ever read. The picture Piper paints of marriage int he book makes you stand in wonder that you are able to participate in such a divinely ordained institution. It is not a “how to” book, but something that will help you to dig your roots down deeply into what marriage really is and what it is really about. It is one I will be adding on my list of books to re-read!

Erin, I am so glad you enjoyed “John Adams!” It is one of my favorite biographies. We watched the mini series last year and it was quite good. And because you always have great recommendations, I will have to check out “Momentary Marriage” as well.
